Blues is a genre of music that originated primarily in the Deep South of the United States from work songs, shouts and chants, field hollers and rhymed narrative ballads. Blue is characterized by specific chord progressions, twelve-bar blues being the most common.
Many people believe that the first blues record was "Crazy Blues" composed by Perry Bradford and recorded for Okeh Records by Marnie Smith and Her Jazz Hounds on August 10, 1920. Although it has been argued that this is not infact a blues.
